The author starts every sentence with, "I." The book is all about him and his narcissistic ways. You'll also get a heavy dose of Christian preaching. The book has very little to do with Tiki and everything to do with his desperate desire to have his ego stroked.
This is a fantastic story about a young 15 year old girl who lived through hell. Don't kid yourself, this is a true story and it happens in malls, schools, anywhere you find young people everyday. PIMPS, SCUM of the earth are kidnapping young girls and boys and forcing them into prostitution every day right here in our beautiful USA. This is one story where God called a man to interced and help and this man listened and fought for this young girl. Won't say much more except that you really need to read this book for yourself. I promise you that you will not be disappointed.
This story of an abducted 15 yr old girl and the man who did everything in his power to rescue her could be very good. But I have to say it's poorly written. As other reviewers have noted, he goes off on tangents, tends to talk too much about himself (while saying it's NOT about him), and is full of grammatical and spelling mistakes. Sometimes the same person's name is spelled differently within just a few pages. Example Latisha/Laticia. This book is in need of heavy editing for spelling, grammar and punctuation. Content editing to keep to the story and avoid repetition would also be a huge plus. Additionally, he never did tell us exactly how she got free from her captivity. All the previous notwithstanding, the story is interesting and thought provoking, with some good insight into the whole arena of sexual slavery and prostitution, as well as the psychological and spiritual twisting that such slavery creates. I would NOT recommend this book to anyone until it has been edited. Sorry.
I could not put this book down! The author is an awesome man of God. Nothing is covered up about his life! He is a real man with real problems which should encourage all of us that we to can be used by God. His story is refreshing, yet heart rending about an ugly crime which is almost unthinkable. I look forward to more books from this author. Thank You! You opened my eyes!
I was expecting a book from the girls point of view. It was all about the person called to rescue the girl. Not very well written, somewhat repetitious and so many "me" and "I" statements in here that I almost couldn't finish the book. Maybe if it had been presented as a story about the person rescuing and the call of God on a man's life I wouldn't have been so disappointed in the book.
I wasn't sure what to expect with this book, especially given the mixed reviews. However, I found myself rushing to get back to this story of a young girl, abducted and sold to a ruthless pimp for almost nothing. When a total stranger pulls up, presumably as her first customer, the true faith of this author begins to unfold. The conviction and spiritual insight demonstrated during his experience is remarkable. He is doubted at every turn, tested at every corner, and even put in the position of having his own life threatened due to other people's inability to let go of control. Tiki ultimately finds her way home, but the story doesn't end there. It is often said that obedience is better than sacrifice... and John remained obedient to the call of Father God, even after his appointment was believed to be over. Many times this author referred to himself as appointed and anointed to this situation. I'd venture to say he is also anointed with a solid gift of ministry via storytelling and motivation. This was an outstanding read.
(I got this as a free download.) So this is apparently a true story about a man named John Pryor who saved a girl through God's will named Tiki. Yes there is a predominant religious theme in this book. I had to try very hard to finish this book all of the way to the end... he kept constantly complimenting himself and commenting on his muscles and working out and his frequent clubbing and the women he had met which had nothing to do with the story. This book truly does seem all about John and virtually all of it is dialog of him doing day to day things, 90% of it not being important to the actual story.
Some of his dialog was refreshing. He had a real point in saying how many "religious" folk will just pray when something is wrong and hope someone else will do something about it. However, he also then goes on to say that everything is God's problem because we are his children. He was told by Tiki that there were other young girls there that the pimp had as his sex workers but John did not feel compelled to save them because that was for someone else to do that God had let him go from the task and he only felt compelled to help Tiki. His mixed messages confused me but there were a couple good rants he did in the book (like the religion and war, and following orders blindly) that was interesting.
I found the ending was redeeming however, because he did make it clear that God's love and will is what made this happen and he did not take the credit, even though up until that point it seemed like he was really into hyping himself up. I really wish that he had said how Tiki managed to escape. It was very neat that she was able to recognize him and have her and her friends wave to him while on the freeway on a chance encounter though some time after this all happened when they lost contact. Lots of unnecessary details and grammatical errors, however I am not one to talk myself ;) The book could have been much shorter, and my only regret was that I assumed it would be a book about her and her tale and really this was about John in a first person perspecive listing - every - single - detail - of what went down leading up to how he first met her, and up to when he last saw Tiki. I felt it would have been much more interesting to get Tiki's side of the story on what transpired during the week that she was forced into prostitution, its too bad that they were not able to do a collaboration as there would have been a lot more depth to the story.
